“For over 131 years, The Salvation Army has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meeting human needs in His name without discrimination in the San Antonio and New Braunfels, Texas areas,” said Brad Mayhar, Public Relations/Media Manager for The Salvation Army – San Antonio Metropolitan Area Command. The Salvation Army is a nonprofit organization to which Extra Credit sends monthly donation checks from credit card processing fees paid by Mattresses and Furniture for Less to Heartland Payment Systems.
Today, the outreach of services of The Salvation Army includes:
- Three Churches
- Adult Rehabilitation Shelter
- Boys and Girls Club
- Emergency Shelter
- Social Services Program
- Single Men’s Shelter
- Food Pantry
- Disaster Services and Trucks
- Financial Assistance Program
- Veterans Assistance
- Correction Services
- Stores and Donation Centers
Further, during the recent months in which many people were affected by COVID 19, Mayhar says, “The Salvation Army provided almost $290,000 in financial assistance to families and individuals, over 71,000 hot meals, 8,900 food boxes, 7,800 PPE’s and about 7,300 hand sanitizer or hygiene kits.”
All of the ongoing and recent services and financial assistance require donations and giving. Mayhar says, “Mattresses and Furniture for Less and Ron Fowler have been strong supporters of The Salvation Army in San Antonio for many years.”
Through the Extra Credit Donation Program, funds from the credit and debit card processing fees paid by Mattresses and Furniture for Less have been used with many fundraisers, the annual celebrity bowling event, annual luncheon, and Angel Tree Golf Tournament, which helps provide gifts for nearly 8,000 San Antonio children who otherwise would not receive anything for Christmas. In addition, Mattresses and Furniture for Less has provided furniture for the Emergency Family Shelter. Also, Ron Fowler has supported The Salvation Army through serving on the Advisory Board, heading up the planning committee for the 2020 Angel Tree Golf Tournament, volunteering with his staff to be bell ringers, and donating a portion of weekend sales to the nonprofit.
Extra Credit is honored to come along side of Ron Fowler, Mattresses and Furniture for Less, and Heartland Payment Systems to provide monthly financial contributions to this worthwhile nonprofit organization.
